Build your résumé

How do you read a job posting?

A job posting describes the work an employer needs done. Read it for tasks and constraints before copying its keywords into your résumé.

Find the work

Look for recurring tasks, the people you would work with, and the level of responsibility. Separate hard requirements, such as a necessary qualification or work authorization, from preferred experience. A wish list is not always a list of absolute gates.

Match evidence to the role

For each important task, find a project, job, course, or volunteer example that shows related work. Put the strongest examples near the top of your résumé. If the posting asks for testing, a specific test you wrote says more than repeating 'testing' in a skills list.

Apply honestly

Use the employer's language where it accurately describes your experience. Do not add a skill just because it appears in the posting. You cannot control the hiring decision, but you can make your contribution easy to understand. For an early-career role, the internship guide offers another starting point.
